CAUSATIVE
Causative is the sentence used to ask other people to do something. There are two kinds of causative, namely: have (has/had), get (gets/got). The object of “get” and “have” causative can be person or thing. When the object is a person called Active Causative but when the object is a thing called Passive Causative.
1. “get (gets/got)” causative with person as object
For example:
a. He will get Miss. Luphz to accompany him to the party tomorrow.
S get O to infinitive
b. Yesterday, she got the woman to wash the shirt.
S got O to infinitive
c. She gets her servant to clean the house.
S gets O to infinitive
d. The teacher got the students to make homework yesterday.
S got O to infinitive
e. I get my friend to come to my house.
S get O to infinitive
f. My mom gets me to make a tea.
S gets O to infinitive
g. They get me to do exercise.
S get O to infinitive
So, the form of “get (gets/got)” causative is:

2. “have/had” causative with person as object
For example:
a. Yesterday, he had the woman wash the shirt.
S had O V1
b. You must have Mac study hard.
S have O V1
c. She had her children cook dinner for her.
S had O V1
d. They had Fred arrive early.
S had O V1
e. I have you take a bath soon.
S have O V1
S + have/had + O(Person) + V1 |
So, the form of “have/had” causative is: |
3. “get/have” causative with thing as object (the meaning is passive)
For example:
a. I get my mobile phone repaired.
S get O V3
b. We must have the floor cleaned as soon as possible.
S have O V3
c. I had my long hair cut last Saturday.
S had O V3
d. She had the car washed at the weekend.
S had O V3
e. My mom gets fried rice eaten.
S gets O V3
f. I get my motorcycle driven by you.
S get O V3
g. We must get the book read.
S get O V3
h. He got the chicken cooked.
S got O V3
i. She gets a glass of tea drunk.
S gets O V3
